Turning and Turning at the Southern Vermont Arts Center
June 27, 2025Turning and Turning, my solo exhibition at the Southern Vermont Art Center
I’m honored to share that my solo exhibition Turning and Turning is now on view at the Southern Vermont Arts Center. The exhibition takes its title from W.B. Yeats’ poem The Second Coming, whose spiraling imagery has long inspired my practice.
The work brings together hand-printed mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock prints), layered collages on wood panels, and a suspended canopy of prints more than fifty feet long. These interconnected pieces explore spirals, gyres, and natural matrices—patterns that mirror cycles in both nature and the human spirit.
Created with handmade washi paper, sumi ink, and aluminum pigment, the installation emphasizes ecological interdependence and the porous boundaries between nature, imagination, and the supernatural. The canopy and wall pieces invite viewers to step inside an environment of cycles, thresholds, and transformation.
This project grew out of years of research in Japan, China, and Vermont, where I’ve worked with artisans and makers who carry forward centuries-old traditions of paper, ink, and printing. I hope that the exhibition creates space for reflection, connection, and a sense of the unseen threads that bind us to each other and to the natural world.
Turning and Turning is supported by the 2024 SVAC Artist Community Award. I am honored to present this work at SVAC, an institution whose support of artists continues to shape the cultural landscape of Vermont.
