Introduction to Mokuhanga 

Shelburne Craft School has been celebrating Japan with a series of workshops and programming dedicated to exploring the exchange between Japan and Vermont, particularly their craft-based cultures. This mokuhanga workshop will be part of that exploration, giving participants a window into an art form that many Japanese learn as school children.

Mokuhanga- 2 color print using kento registration 

I alternate my workshops between learning the technical skills of mokuhanga and exploring the creative potential of the medium, although all the workshops will contain elements of both. Kento registration is unique to Japanese prints. The method is both simple and brilliant. It will give you an understanding of the history of Japanese prints, as well as give you the ability to accurately register your prints, without any external registration system.

Mokuhanga: Two-color printing with kento registration 

Registration will be the key to this workshop, where we will produce 2 color prints using the Japanese method of printmaking. All prints are hand-printed without the use of a press, with materials that are gentle on the environment.
